Youth Film & Expression LabYouth Film & Expression Lab is a flexible, English-language workshop program where young people (aged 15–25) explore their voices, social issues, and creative freedom through cinematic storytelling. Led by an international professional filmmaker, the program provides a space for beginners and emerging storytellers to explore the intersection of free speech, personal identity, storytelling and films.
The lab is structured around three complementary workshops. Schools, libraries, and youth centers can book a one-day intensive or combine them into 2 to 3-day workshops.
- Debate to Drama (Content & Society) Instead of just debating social topics, participants transform them into short fictional scenes. This workshop encourages empathy and character-building, moving youth from passive observation to active, creative expression.
- Creative Limits (Form & Problem-Solving) A hands-on module where participants create 1–2 minute films using smartphones under assigned creative constraints (e.g., no dialogue, single-shot). It challenges them to experiment and reflect on how visual limitations influence storytelling.
- Whose Story is it? (Voice & Representation) A reflective session focusing on whose stories are visible in society. Through guided writing and perspective exercises, youth develop short story fragments or monologues, learning how personal experiences become meaningful narrative material.
Participants will gain - Confidence in expressing complex ideas through storytelling, Media literacy and visual communication, Understanding of artistic freedom, representation, and democratic values, Experience in collaborative, project-based creative work.
Flexibility: Designed as stand-alone 6-hour modules or progressive 2-3 day programs. Ideal for smaller groups (8-10) but also adaptable for full classes (up to 30) by dividing students into active production crews.
